Developmental Disabilities Family Supports

The Developmental Disabilities Services of The Edinburg Center are dedicated to ensuring that persons with developmental disabilities receive individualized, flexible services which allow them to fully participate and contribute in a meaningful way to their community. Staff use a positive reinforcement-based approach to support persons to achieve their individual goals.

Family Support Services offer intensive, flexible family supports for families of children with developmental disabilities who require these services to thrive and continue to develop at home. Supports include:

  • Advocating for families with education, human service and other organizations, and teaching them how to become better advocates
  • Training parents in the best ways to assist their children to develop socially and succeed in all types of social settings
  • Working with families to develop strategies to encourage positive social behaviors
  • Providing play therapy where structured play is used to promote child growth and development
  • Assisting families in teaching daily living and social skills to their children
  • Providing education to families on a wide range of related topics, and
  • Promoting and directly supporting a child's integration into the community.

Referrals for Developmental Disabilities Family Supports are made through the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services.
